A total of 2,937 firefighters are battling the blaze, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The conditions are extremely dry and the surrounding heavy smoke is nearly challenging the efforts of the firefighters.

It was more than "100 degrees on the fire line" on Monday, said Marc Peebles, a spokesman with the federal interagency management team on the fire.
