"I thought HuffPost would be my last act", Huffington saidvia Twitter on Thursday.
"When I chose to create Thrive Global, I thought it would be possible to build a startup and continue as editor in chief of the Huffington Post", Huffington said in a statement. Thrive Global has closed its series A funding round. Six years after the site went live, AOL acquired The Huffington Post for $315 million in 2011. In late July, Verizon announced the $4.8 billion acquisition Yahoo, which has its own hefty media business.

As for why she's decided not to stay on at the company in another position, she explained, "I have been running Huffington Post for 11 years and I couldn't imagine having another relationship with it".

HuffPo was far from the only media website that grew big on search engine strategies, but it was one of the few that deftly managed the shift to social media distribution.
