As of Wednesday morning Delta said he had cancelled some 255 flights after the company already nixed over 1,500 flights in the previous days.

But they affected tens of thousands of travelers, and hundreds more flights were delayed. Southwest Airlines experienced the same kind of three-day problem from a computer glitch late last month.
"We continue to ask our customers to check their travel plans and flight status". Those passengers can make one change to their itineraries without paying the standard change fee of $200 domestically to as much as $500 for global flights. "As they've grown in importance and stature with more flights and customers, taking time to do maintenance becomes a bigger issue".

Delta, the No.2 USA airline by passenger traffic, had said that as of 5:15 p.m. EDT (2115 GMT) Tuesday it canceled about 680 flights, while about 2,400 had departed. After it combined IT systems with merger partner Continental, United suffered shutdowns on several days, most recently in 2015. "It's great to have flashy apps and a flashy website, but if you can't board a plane, it's a problem". Delta gate agents wrote some boarding passes by hand. In Tokyo, a dot-matrix printer was resurrected to keep track of passengers on a flight to Shanghai.
Goldberg said Delta's backup systems may not have had the capacity to run the systems, causing the slowness.
