'Captain Marvel' Movie Will Give Brie Larson's Superhero a New Origin Story

"She's such an incredibly kick-ass character and Kelly Sue DeConnick did a great run with her story arc recently", states Perlman.
So that's where the problems start for Marvel Studio's Captain Marvel co-writer Nicole Perlman. That story, while awesome, is strikingly similar to the origin story of the DC Comics hero, The Green Lantern, and Perlman wanted to be sure Carol's story didn't get shrugged off by movie audiences as too much of a Green Lantern copy. Doing an origin story for a character in-between two major event pictures, however, and being the last to lead into a massive climax for the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe, would be its own unique gauntlet indeed. But with Carol specifically, whose stories have actively dealt with her legacy, how do you balance new specifics with staying true to her character?
I say "convinced", but really it's just a small pep talk to remind Carol that she's long since paid her dues, and that the previous Mar-Vell would be proud to have her bear the title.
Captain Marvel is due out in theaters March 8, 2019. And obviously, that's not what we want to do. "There's a lot of reinvention that needs to happen", she said on Any Time With Vin Forte.

Laughs could be heard inside the courtroom, but Pooler did not join in the laughter and set Griffith's bond at $18,500. Griffith was arrested for allegedly breaking into a high school and stealing an employee's vehicle .
Jury in Place For Kane Trial
The case will resume at 8:30 a.m. with Beemer, who also testified against Kane before the leaks grand jury, on the witness stand. Former Philadelphia mayor and Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell said Kane doesn't need a law license to act as attorney general.
Obviously Carol's her own character, and will apparently be spun off away from Mar-Vell, but a nice little nod to the comic book series would be to have Steve Rogers be instrumental in some way to her superhero name decision.
Now I'm of the opinion that changing Captain Marvel's origin story simply to avoid comparisons with that of "Green Lantern" - and more likely to avoid the bad taste that the 2011 film adaptation left - is a little paranoid, but changing it to fit in with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe makes a bit more sense. Captain Marvel has an origin story that involves having received her powers thanks to radiation from the Kree Psyche-Magnitron machine mixing her genes with those of a Kree alien named Mar-Vell, who physically shielded Carol from the Psyche-Magnitron's blast.
We've seen shifts in the origins of various Marvel heroes in the MCU and Carol Danvers is a bit of an odd one at that, so this is hardly shocking, but saying it's being motivated by Hal Jordan's similar backstory is a little odd. The ring imbues him with powers, and he's commissioned as an officer of the Green Lantern Corps, a galactic law enforcement agency. It's been an incredible experience. The device fused Kree DNA with her own, giving her the fabulous powers of a superhero.
Captain Marvel has yet to find its director, and we will keep you posted on who gets the gig.
