Delta Air (DAL) Stock Down, Cancels 150 More Flights

The company is predicting 90 flight cancellations for Wednesday, although tracking service FlightStats indicates there are about 150.
In a video posted on the airline's website, CEO Ed Bastian said Delta probably will have cancelations and delays today too, although he didn't give numbers.
Monday's computer meltdown lasted about six hours and forced Delta to suspend all flights. Southwest said it canceled 2,300 flights between July 20 and 24, about 12 percent of its schedule, and FlightStats Inc. said more than 8,000 flights were delayed.
On Delta's website, the airline advises "if your flight is cancelled or significantly delayed, you are entitled to a refund".
Delta Air Lines passengers are still facing delays and flight cancellations Wednesday after the airline's massive computer outage earlier in the week.
It's been more than 48 hours since Delta suffered a massive power outage that grounded all its planes Monday morning, but the travel nightmare isn't over for some fliers.
Delta said its technology systems that allow its airport customer service agents to process check-ins and conduct boarding and dispatch are "functioning normally".
"A lot of airlines have been struggling with legacy systems that they are not able to shut down - decommission to move through their life cycle - because they have a 24/7 operation", Jaggers said.

More than 1,600 flights were cancelled over two days, Reuters noted. Power utility Georgia Power (GPE-A) stated through a spokesperson, "other Georgia Power customers were not affected".
By late Wednesday the effects were receding but Delta still canceled more than 300 flights for the day.
"Of 3,100 flights that have departed during the day, about 2/3 left within 30 minutes of their scheduled departure time", the company said in a statement.
Delta also extended to August 21 the deadline for reticketing and travel.
"So they said, 'We'll get another pilot.' But they couldn't find one, so they canceled", Edwards said. Those passengers can make one change to their itineraries without paying the standard change fee of $200 domestically to as much as $500 for worldwide flights.
Tuesday's disruptions followed about 1,000 cancelations and 2,800 delayed flights on Monday.
Experts agree the tight schedule airlines run is why it's so hard to recover from a major problem like the one Delta experienced. Even brief outages can now snarl traffic and, as the Delta incident shows, those problems can go global in seconds.
