Donald Trump repeatedly accused President Barack Obama of founding the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria terror group on Thursday, refusing to take back a patently false allegation even when questioned about the logic of his position.

Trump has been making similar comments for several months, and he repeated his latest talking point in an interview with Republican radio host Hugh Hewitt the day after his Broward speech.

"No, I meant he's the founder of ISIS, I do", responded Trump. "He was the most valuable player". In fact, in sports they have awards, he gets the most valuable player award.

Hewitt: By using the term "founder", they're hitting you again.

DT: Therefore, he was the founder of ISIS. He's the founder of ISIS.

Some people rushed to Trump's defense, pointing out that he might have meant that Obama is responsible for the rise of ISIS, rather than literally founding the group.

The Trump campaign seized on the latest emails to blast Clinton as "corrupt", with critics saying the messages showed the foundation sought improper preferential treatment from the department. That's what it was.

Recent opinion polls have shown Trump losing ground to Clinton, a former senator and first lady, in the race for the November 8 election.

She slammed Trump's "casual cruelty to a Gold Star family", referring to the billionaire's clash with the parents of a Muslim American soldier who was killed in action. That rallying cry was popularized at the Republican convention in Cleveland in July. He acknowledged the possibility he could lose the race.

He added, "I go back to a very good way of life".
