Trevor Siemian gets Broncos' starting spot for National Football League opener against Panthers

Trevor Siemian, a 2015 seventh-round draft pick out of Northwestern, was in on the competition too, though most saw him as a bit of an afterthought. Rookie Paxton Lynch eventually could be the quarterback in Denver for the rest of the current decade and beyond, but Siemian will get the first opportunity in 2016. "Now we can get to work and getting chemistry".
Sanchez, with $1 million guaranteed on his salary, is probably going to take the cut, although the Broncos still haven't asked him to alter his contract.
Siemian threw for 285 yards and a touchdown in three preseason games, but turnovers remain a concern as the second-year quarterback also threw two interceptions in the past two preseason games.
Give the Broncos credit for this: They aren't afraid to make the risky decision when it comes to the quarterback position.
Reportedly the Broncos like the poise that Siemian has shown during training camp.
Siemian's most impressive throw was a 43-yarder to Demaryius Thomas, who caught it in stride over his outside shoulder as he streaked down the Rams' sideline in the final minute of the first half. Kubiak praises his calmness and says he was impressed by Siemian's play.
The news was confirmed Monday morning as Kubiak announced that Siemian is now the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback. "I believe in this kid and what he can do for our football team, and I believe in what our team can do for him". "For me, I'm not reading too much into anything and trying to be the best team-mate and leader I can be". "I can tell you whoever lines up out there for us will be expected to play well and play well for a very good football team". The fact that Siemian is starting is likely more of an indictment on the play of Sanchez than anything else. It will be just the second career start for Siemian, which should hopefully provide somewhat of an easier matchup for the Colts' depleted secondary. He seems to have a penchant for turning the ball over-three giveaways in the first two preseason games-which is an obvious problem for a team that wants to win with a steady offense and a smothering defense. The breaking point for Sanchez's chances, however, came on August 20th in a preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.
