AL-best Rangers lose 11-2 as Darvish struggles again vs A's

The Khris Davis power show continued Sunday as the slugging outfielder blasted two more home runs en route to 40 on the year in the A's 5-2 win over the Rangers in Arlington.
Khris Davis homered twice for the A's, giving him 40 for the season - 10 of them in 15 games against the Rangers.
Oakland second baseman Joey Wendle led off the game with his first career homer and Raul Alcantara collected his first career win as the Athletics blasted the Texas Rangers 11-2 Saturday night.
"I told him 45 was more impressive than 40", manager Bob Melvin said. With his two homers, Davis became the first player ever to hit 10 home runs in one season against the Rangers.
Japanese right-hander Yu Darvish lasted only five innings in a shaky start as the Texas Rangers were defeated by the Oakland Athletics 11-2 on Saturday. Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson had nine homers in 65 at-bats against the Rangers in 1974. "So it's good to see", Melvin said. What, he walked three guys in a row? "The numbers don't lie, and I like hitting off them". His solo shot came in the seventh inning, pulling the Rangers to within a run at 6-5.
Davis broke that mark when he went the opposite way in the eighth, a two-run shot to right off Keone Kela that also pushed his RBI total to 99. I can't say enough about the desire and commitment these guys still have to finishing out the season strong. He got his neck brace off just more than a week ago. "I know he feels good about the outing".
Oakland has now won six of its last seven games and Texas has dropped three of four.
With two weeks left in the regular season, the magic number for the AL-leading Rangers (88-62) to clinch the division title remained at five games.
Manager Jeff Banister said before the game that he'll enjoy having Fielder around again. "I take full responsibility for it", Lewis said.
Lewis (6-2), who missed two months with a strained right lat, makes his second start since coming off the disabled list Sunday when the Rangers close the series against Oakland and left-hander Ross Detwiler. Ryan Dull worked the ninth for his third save of the season.
Texas got its runs with four consecutive hits off Detwiler with one out in the third.
Semien's 26th homer, with two on and two outs in the fifth, put the A's up 7-0. Rookie center fielder Brett Eibner raced back and made a diving catch near the warning track. "When the ball was hit, I didn't think he would catch it". He hit.467 (14 or 30) on the trip. The Rangers have at least 20 home runs from all three outfield positions this season, just the fourth time in club history that has happened. The teams have split 16 games this season.
Athletics: Right-hander Sonny Gray, out since August 7 with a strained right forearm, threw all of his pitches during a 31-pitch bullpen session.
Athletics: Oakland starts its final homestand of the season on Monday night against Houston.
