One Victim Still in Critical Condition Following Philadelphia Shooting Spree
Sep 21 2016 by Desiree Burns
The shooter, later identified by a law-enforcement official as Nicholas Glenn, 25, was fatally shot by police.
Glenn shot and wounded the security guard before he used a bar patron as a shield and later shot her in the leg, Ross said. The suspect is believed to have acted alone and there's no indication so far that he had been radicalized. "We still aren't absolutely clear as to why".
Police found a "rambling" letter allegedly written by the gunman in which he expressed hatred toward police and probation officers, Ross said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The gunman in that case reportedly told investigators that he was "following Allah". The attack began at approximately 11:20PM Friday when Glenn opened fire on Sgt. Sylvia Young, a 19-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department. Sgt. The suspect fired at Sgt. One or two bullets were lodged in her bullet-proof vest, and her service weapon was struck twice, disabling it. Both were in stable condition Saturday. Glenn fled eastbound with arriving officers giving chase. The other officer was talking with her family.
Mall attack - At least eight people were taken to a hospital with injuries after a stabbing attack at a St. Cloud, Minnesota, shopping mall Saturday evening. Her identity has not yet been released.
"She didn't hear him say a word, just walked up on her and started firing", Ross said. Glenn then continued eastbound on Sansom.
Officers patrolling a central city district packed with restaurants, shops and clubs shortly before midnight Saturday said they detected a strong odor of marijuana from a passing group. The officers were uninjured.
Ross said two police officers and University of Pennsylvania police officer Ed Miller chased the man into an alley, where the suspect was shot and killed. He was taken to a hospital "for treatment for a severe sprain to his right ankle that was the result of jumping over fences of the rear yards of homes", police said.
George Clooney left stunned by friends Pitt-Jolie's split
The reporter was talking about the split on The Today Show when he proclaimed that marriage breakdowns are "no one's business". But sources tell the tabloid the trigger for Jolie was Pitt's substance abuse, including his dependence on alcohol and pot.
Two top China steelmakers announce merger to combat glut
Earlier this year, the government announced that it would cut back the nation's steel capacity by 100-150 million tons by 2020. An analyst said the merger between Baosteel and WISG was "merely the beginning" of more such moves in China's steel industry.
Are Video Games Getting More Intellectual?
And because of this, games that focus on history, geography, or other elements of the real world can now almost be educational. It may sound somewhat hard to believe, but there have already been artistic exhibitions for people’s Tilt Brush designs.
Glenn subsequently died in a shootout with other responding officers.
This story has been corrected to show the suspect wounded three civilians, not five.
The shooting was the second time police in Philadelphia faced gunfire within a little more than 24 hours. One officer was cracking jokes with his kids and wife. So we are happy, very blessed that that's the way it turned out.
But, he added, "We can see an attempt to revive the image of the so-called Evil Empire and use it to frighten the society". The civilians, there are some seriously hurt, and still in various degrees of being treated. But our officers turned out okay, and hopefully the civilians will turn out okay."I can not say enough about the response of the police officers last night". Ross said the envelope was titled "Doomed". Police say the woman died and the man was in critical condition. A relative of the suspect aided police in finding a location where investigators believe Glenn had been staying most recently. "I'm just devastated." MacKenzie declined to say Saturday whether a weapon was found and said the items that were recovered will not be revealed until a news conference Monday by Police Chief Chuck Jordan. It was later determined Glenn discharged his firearm at least 51 times during this incident.
Commissioner Richard Ross said, "This is a completely freakish situation".
Nearby police officers heard the gunshots and chased the suspect on foot.
