Running Back Has Torn Meniscus

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer tells local radio station KFXN-FM that running back Adrian Peterson has a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Afterward, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said he wanted Bradford to play in a 25-16 win at Tennessee in the September 11 opener, but because he hadn't yet mastered the offense after being acquired on September 3, Shaun Hill went the distance. Zimmer noted that Peterson's "heel kind of got planted" and then a Packers defender hit him from the side.

That assumption was challenged on Sunday Night Football when injured Vikings' star Adrian Peterson hobbled down what appeared to be the most direct route to the locker room.

Peterson, after hurting his right knee, told trainers he didn't want to be carted off with a team cart they have behind the bench. Stewart is undergoing an MRI Monday. He had been provided with multiple options about how to treat the injury, and he had been waiting to hear back from Dr. James Andrews, who performed extensive surgery on Peterson's knee in 2011, before making his decision. The veteran quarterback completed 22 of 31 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns in his first game Sunday.

It nearly seemed Sunday night that McCarthy and Rodgers were trying to open up the run game with long passes instead of the other way around. She said it's "pretty optimistic" to believe Peterson could return as soon as Sunday. McCarthy said if surgery is needed, it might be just to trim the meniscus.

You're replacing him with: Jerick McKinnon and/or Matt Asiata. A full fix would likely end his season immediately.

Adrian Peterson suffered a right knee injury during the 17-14 win and there were some people who were anxious the team might have suffered a serious setback just as it looked like the class of the NFC North.

Meanwhile Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa announced release of water from Mettur Dam for Samba rice cultivation. Police patrolling was intensified and all vulnerable areas were taken care of, a senior police officer said.

With that being said, although a torn meniscus is never a positive thing, the news certainly could have been much worse. They haven't done much better than Peterson this season, combining to rush for 35 yards on 13 carries. If they can get away with Peterson missing just those games, or fewer, their dreams can survive.

Peterson, the NFL's leading rushing in 2015 with 1,485 yards, was carried off the field and left the stadium on crutches after sustaining the injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game.

"They got after us up front, I thought", Zimmer said.

The running back tore his left ACL at the end of the 2011 season but famously recovered in time to lead the National Football League in rushing in 2012 and again last season. "It's devastating to see your friend and your teammate go down", Asiata said. "So we have to find our rhythm here as we head back home and hopefully we can take care of business at home".

"It's obviously a shock for us but we have to rebound", said Greenway.

Zimmer did not immediately indicate what the Vikings' options will be for the 2012 NFL MVP.
