From his on-court accomplishments to the Paul Bunyon-esque locker room stories that nearly seem like tall tales now, Garnett's legacy will stand the test of time.

Garnett revolutionized the power forward position with his speed and ball handling, forcing the entire league to re-think how basketball is meant to be played. Over the course of his stay in Minnesota, Garnett would be named an All-Star numerous times, and would receive his first ever MVP award in the 2003-2004 National Basketball Association season.

That intensity came to define Garnett. "I"™m just thankful man," he said. "Most incredible leader I've ever seen", Rivers said.

"I'm just thankful, man".

Just hours later, though, Towns released the Instagram post above, stating that he and Garnett "talked" and the reigning Rookie of the Year said, "I know what I must do. We"™re going to be all right, man. But so far so good.

"Farewell", the screen read at the end of the video. Followed by, "Thank you for the journey.". The Wolves have announced no plans for a jersey retirement ceremony. "I never thought people would love me like this", the Minnesota Timberwolves star says in a voiceover as the video shows him walking around the team's home court at the Target Center by himself.

The Lakers have 20 players on coach Luke Walton's first roster as they head to training camp in Santa Barbara next week.

He joins future Hall of Famers Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant in bowing out of the sport in 2016. The point guard was the NBA MVP in 2011 but has battled injuries since, not appearing in more than 66 games in any season.

Garnett was drafted by the Timberwolves straight out of high school in 1995.

Garnett is also a 15-time NBA All-Star, having first made the cut aged 21 in 1997.

As a Celtic, Garnett won his only championship ring in 2008. "But when that changes, it"™s pretty easy to move on.".

Garnett spent the bulk of his career in Minnesota. "That"™s my past and I"™m in a new chapter if my life.".

Garnett made it clear in his returning press conference that he was coming back with bigger goals than just wearing the uniform again. To me, that's always most important. This is a ideal ending to it. This is the flawless situation. You were an awesome player and you will be among the top of the bests that played the game. He appeared in 35 games previous year, largely serving as a veteran leader and mentor during the worst season in Lakers history. He was inactive for the final 37 games last season. "Things have changed so much and does he still want to do that?"

Garnett spoke often of his desire to one day get into ownership with the Wolves, but it remains unclear if that is still possible after Saunders' passing. Thibodeau deferred the question to Taylor, who was waiting on an answer from Garnett.

The two sides came to agreement on a buyout on Friday, the person said.
