The saga has been ongoing for weeks and now we finally have an answer, Conor McGregor will fight Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 205.

A lightweight championship bout between Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor has been confirmed by UFC officials for November 12th at Madison Square Garden.

The card takes place on November 12, in Madison Square Garden in NY in what will be the UFC's first ever event in the state. New welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will defend his crown against karate specialist Stephen Thompson, plus Joanna Jedrzejczyk puts her women's strawweight title on the line against Karolina Kowalkiewicz in a battle of top Polish fighters. UFC officials announced the bout Monday night, putting to rest what the headlining bout would be for UFC 205 on November 12 at Madison Square Garden. "So, this fight's coming up and he wants to try to gain both belts and he will give up one of the titles after that fight in NY". White said that if McGregor wins the belt, he will then have to give up one or the other.

But the Dubliner, who was rumored to be unable to fight at UFC 205 due to a bruised foot, admitted the fight announcement was a long time coming - since he agreed to the bout more than a week ago. Per UFC president Dana White, McGregor will retain his featherweight champion through UFC 205, meaning he has the chance to become the first ever to hold those belts simultaneously.

McGregor has opened as the favorite in all nine of his UFC fights. Conor is someone who has been an MMA fighter for years and doesn't want to be told that he can't do something.
