Wayne Rooney claims that Manchester United will still challenge for the Premier League crown as the captain works to reclaim a spot in the starting XI.
On United's obstructive approach against Liverpool, Rooney felt his team-mates executed Mourinho's blueprint near perfectly to thwart the home side's full-throttle football. "He obviously loves games against Liverpool - not too bad!" I like it. I was ready for that responsibility.
They have had some hard results recently and if they had come here and lost, then they have Fenerbahce on Thursday, Chelsea on Sunday, the Manchester derby next week - a big run of games and they could not afford to lose tonight.
After all the hype preceding the battle between English football's fiercest rivals, United's manager Jose Mourinho was left happier than his counterpart Juergen Klopp as the visitors doused Liverpool's acclaimed attacking pyrotechnics.
"It was a game we didn't want to lose; we knew it, the manager knew it, but we also wanted to try and win the game", he explained, while also noting it will "take time" to fully absorb the 53-year-old's tactics.

Obama waded into the race to elect a successor, speaking at the White House where he was hosting his final state visit. She has no public schedule Tuesday and will be traveling to Las Vegas ahead of the last presidential debate Wednesday.
Rooney believes further positive results over a testing fortnight "can be the start of something" for Mourinho's men. "I think he is a fantastic player and he will shine for us this season, there is no doubt".
"In our defence I am one who has played the most games these days".
Rooney's next chance to start for United will come in Thursday's Europa League match against Fenerbahce.
On De Gea and his two saves to brilliantly deny Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho in the second half, Klopp said: "That's how he plays at Liverpool!". You want to use this in your defending and create some situations like this, but when you have the ball you've got to calm down immediately.
