A Miami Beach official's proposal to combat Zika-carrying mosquitoes

Ever since Miami Beach officials announced they had trapped three Zika-positive mosquitos on September 1st, the Zika outbreak has had a significant impact on the city's tourism industry, with hundreds of room cancellations reported. That includes 184 locally acquired cases, 745 travel-related cases, 110 cases involving pregnant women and five cases whose origins could not be confirmed.
U.S. health officials have a whopping $1.1 billion at their disposal to help them in their fight against zika virus and as part of the overall strategy, they have outlined how they intend to spend it all.
"We have seen that aggressive mosquito control efforts have worked in areas like Wynwood and we hope the county also aggressively sprays in this area so we can limit the spread of this virus and protect pregnant women and their growing babies", Scott said in a statement, per CBS News.
Florida health officials are conducting nine investigations into mosquito-borne Zika cases, including six in Miami-Dade, one in Palm Beach and two labeled "unknown" because exposure could have occurred in Miami Beach or as a result of the person traveling overseas to a country where the virus is widespread.

Some funding was restored to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Public Health Emergency Preparedness Fund on Tuesday, providing $44.25 million to 62 jurisdictions as of Tuesday.
