Ohio State vs Wisconsin: Highlights, score and recap
Oct 21 2016 by Marjorie Miles
The Alabama Crimson Tide have had plenty of big wins this season, but this might was the most impressive victory yet for Nick Saban's squad. Down 16-6 at halftime, Barrett, the undeniable leader on the 2016 squad, came out in the second half determined to leave Madison, Wisconsin, with a zero still hanging in the loss column.
Nearly nobody recruits better than Ohio State, and it was apparent a few times Saturday night. The good news for Penn State is that it had a bye week to get guys healthy, while Ohio State is coming off an extremely physical game against the Wisconsin Badgers.
Speaking of the country despite the loss to OSU, Wisconsin's AP rating shows that the CFB nation still believes the Badgers are one of the best teams in the nation.
Wisconsin, now 4-2 on the season, appears to be headed toward a spoiler role, just not for MI or Ohio State - their two losses - at least until the conference title game. The carries included a 28-yard run, a 12-yard run on the Badgers' first field goal drive and a 15-yard run to begin another field-goal drive late in the second quarter.
Almost, but not quite. Before that the Ohio State quarterback was 5-1 as a starter, had gone off for 20 touchdowns against five interceptions and had thrown for more than 1,600 yards and had run for just shy of 400 yards. Given how the rest of the Big Ten looks, even with Nebraska at 6-0 for the first time since 2001, the Badgers have looked like the third-best team in the Big Ten even in defeat.
Wisconsin already has faced stiff challenges, beating LSU before falling 14-7 to No. 4 MI on a fourth-quarter touchdown.
Already halfway through the regular season, Ohio State's remaining six games will feature two teams who are now ranked in the Top 10 of both polls: the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Michigan Wolverines, both of which are home games at the Horseshoe.
The Buckeyes know they have work to do, especially on offense.
Mosul: Most intense day of fighting since offensive began
At Qayara air base, near al-Hud, a senior Iraqi general called on Islamic State group fighters in Mosul to surrender. Approximately 2,500 European Union nationals are known to be fighting alongside Islamic State in the Mosul area .
Thursday's roundup: Green Bay's Rodgers throws three TDs
The Packers had to use a lot of subpackages in the first half, but would get back to more base concepts in the second half. On the next series, Green Bay drove from their own 9 to the Bears one but on 4th and goal, Montgomery was stopped short.
McDonald's sales beat estimates as turnaround gathers pace
Revenue was $6.42 billion in the period ended September 30, the Oak Brook, Illinois-based company said in a statement on Friday. Operating income in the United States rose 8% reflecting improved restaurant profitability and higher gains from refranchising.
"We didn't come into this one hoping to keep it close, hoping to just be out there", UW coach Paul Chryst said. "I asked the kids on Friday night to put it all out there and they did".
Ohio State will go on the road again next Saturday with a matchup against Penn State. "This one hurts tonight". The Buckeyes have won eight of the last nine games against the Badgers.
Nebraska took advantage when Indiana's safeties ran into one another, allowing Morgan to turn about a 20-yard gain into a 72-yard TD.
The Badgers could not protect their quarterback, including on the final play of the game. They did not play a ideal game, though they certainly didn't play a poor one. The potential run to the conference title game starts with a road game against Iowa on October 22.
Wisconsin finished with more total yards, 450-411, but it fell short in overtime and dropped to 4-2.
If the return of the running game provided the spark, a typical game from the defense provided the backbone. That made life easier for freshman quarterback Alex Hornibrook, who threw for 214 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
On the offensive side of the ball, Curtis Samuel and Mike Weber provided an adequate ground attack, combining for 92 yards against a defense that has only given up an average of 90 on the ground per game this season.
Ohio State's speed - OK, so it was mostly Barrett - gradually wore UW down in the second half, though. The Buckeyes had two fourth-down conversions and a third-down conversion during the 13-play scoring drive.
