Sharon Jones, Dap Kings singer, has died aged 60

Jones was aged 60; her passing ends a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2013. She was only 60-years-old. Sharon Jones sat at the dead centre of it all, those years working as a prison guard no doubt helping to keep the band in line. According to a statement from her publicist, the singer was surrounded by loved ones, including her bandmates.

The Roots drummer Questlove posted a photograph of Jones on Instagram and wrote: "Thank You Sharon". The film documents her transformation into a cancer patient and back into a full-throated force.

The screening was bittersweet for the star, who took to the stage and revealed her cancer had returned and spread to her lung, liver and lymph nodes.

Prior to making her mark in the music industry, Jones tried her hand as a corrections officer at Rikers Island.

Timeline of Fidel Castro's life
Although Castro never confirmed remarrying, he reportedly Wednesday former schoolteacher Dalia Soto del Valle and had five sons. Castro had ushered in lot of people-oriented welfare measures and had defied the United States on many occasions, he said.

The cruel mistress that is the year of our Lord 2016 claimed another victim last night: Sharon Jones, the soulful vocalist of the Dap-Kings. I haven't seen the documentary or sadly, seen Sharon perform with the Dap-Kings before.

Born in Augusta, S.C., Jones was raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. "I just want to be able to get onstage and move". Growing up idolizing the Godfather of Soul, it was no surprise that the dynamic, show-stopping performer would later earn the title of "The Female James Brown".

Sharon Jones' management said that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to The Lustgarten Foundation, James Brown Family Foundation and Little Kids Rock. She continued to perform and tour as long her body would allow it. "I will be having surgery very soon and will have to rest and recover". More releases followed on Desco, but after the label folded, Roth set up a new label with Neal Sugarman, Daptone Records, which released Dap Dippin' with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings in 2002. "But I want to work and that is our job".
