Trump settles on Oklahoma's attorney general to lead EPA

Many political observers voiced immediate concern over president-elect Donald Trump's choice to head the Environmental Protection Agency revealed on Wednesday - a man who not only denies credibility of climate change but recently sued the very agency he's now poised to lead.

In that statement, Trump said the EPA has pursued "an out-of-control anti-energy agenda that has destroyed millions of jobs", and that Pruitt "will reverse this trend and restore the EPA's essential mission of keeping our air and our water clean and safe".

"I applaud President-elect Trump and his team for choosing Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency".

He is also a leading figure in a legal effort by several states to throw out the EPA's Clean Power Plan, the centerpiece of Obama's climate change strategy that requires states to curb carbon output.

In Pruitt, Trump has found a kindred spirit as it relates to climate change skepticism.

Castro laid to rest in Cuba Sunday
Cuba's President Raul Castro, Fidel's brother and successor, said on Saturday evening that "millions" had come out to pay tribute. According to the president, a law banning such homages will be presented to the National Assembly when it meets later this month.

His installment, if confirmed, would mark a significant break with the current EPA approach toward global warming.

In a recent tweet, Pruitt noted that he has been "fighting the Clean Power Plan for six years", along with other popular initiatives undertaken by the Obama administration over the past eight years.

The selection of Pruitt comes amid uncertainty over where the Trump administration will stand on environmental issues.

In his 2014 re-election for Oklahoma attorney general, in which he ran unopposed, energy company campaign finance groups and executives raised $114,000 for Pruitt.

David Rivkin, a constitutional litigator at the worldwide law firm Baker Hostetler who represented Pruitt and the state of Oklahoma in the lawsuit against the Clean Power Plan, recently told the Post that he felt Pruitt would help ensure the EPA continues protecting Earth's natural resources while reducing federal overreach.

Environmental groups were quick to condemn the decision as "appalling", with one comparing it to "putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop". Pruitt did not mention studies showing that the overwhelming majority of climate scientists agree that humans are contributing to global warming. "He partnered up with West Virginia as we filed a lawsuit against the EPA's illegal Clean Power Plan", Morrisey said. Oklahoma, a seismically inactive area before gas fracking operations began had 857 earthquakes a year ago, more than the rest of the continental USA combined.
