Odia IPS officer Amulya Patnaik appointed as Delhi Police Commissioner

IPS officer Amulya Patnaik was today appointed the next Delhi Police Commissioner.
Mishra is now with the Central Reserve Police Force as an Additional Director General while Kumar is an Additional Director General with the Central Industrial Security Force. Mr Patnaik is an IPS officer of the 1985 batch of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.
The governement of India appointed Amulya Patnaik as the next Delhi Police Commissioner on Monday. If not transferred to any other post, he might get three years as the Delhi police chief.
Currently Special Commissioner of Police (Administration), Mr. Patnaik has handled several critical assignments in the Delhi Police, the key among which was heading the Crime Branch and the Southern Range as Joint Commissioner.

Patnaik, a 1985 batch IPS officer, took over the position previously held by Alok Kumar Verma, who was recently appointed Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Verma is yet to take charge as the director of the CBI. "Patnaik is known for his grip on law and order and investigations". Both the officers were made Senior Special CPs during BS Bassi's stewardship of the Delhi Police but the posts were later scrapped after senior IPS officer lodged protest. A police medal for meritorious service also goes to his list of accomplishments.
He has also served as the SSP, Law and Order, Puducherry and DGP in the north-eastern state of Mizoram.
Patnaik is also credited for his innovative planning and police-community partnerships. Besides, his other pioneering steps like launching of the anti-obscene calls cell and anti-stalking cell had prevented crimes against women in Delhi.
