While speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of INC candidate, at the residence of Naoroibam Ratan (Kapu) contesting from Heingang assembly constituency, Ibobi said, "Deserted congress must also know that they have left behind incomplete developmental projects recklessly abandoning their responsibilities". Even when she had to file her nomination papers for the upcoming assembly polls in the northeastern state, Irom chose to cover a distance of approximately 20 kilometres from Imphal (her home) on her bicycle.
Imphal: Activist Irom Sharmila and Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh, who is seeking a fourth term, today filed their nominations for Thoubal Assembly seat in the upcoming assembly elections.
Mittal said Sharmila had told the media that she was "really selected" as a BJP candidate and "a condition requiring Rs 36 crore" was put to her, with the sum being either produced by her or "arranged from the Centre".
Sharmila filed her nomination on behalf of People's Resurgence and Justice Alliance. Irom was on a 16-year-long fast demanding the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Power act (AFSPA) from the state before joining mainstream politics last year.
"The ruling Congress shall win absolute majority in the non-Naga areas". The chief minister said with conviction the Congress party would return with a "thumping" majority and would form the government for the fourth consecutive term. PRJA is hoping to make an impact using alternative political practices.
Shamila is likely to be the principal opponent against the three-time chief minister even though BJP has also fielded Leitanthem Bashanta as party nominee in the constituency.
