The campaign will kick off with paid advertisements in the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News touting the assets that Colorado offers when compared to Utah, including stronger beer, taller peaks, "higher" recreation, and, most importantly, a deep commitment to public lands.
Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper recently said his state would be a good fit and a Colorado land conservation group placed playful advertisements Wednesday in Utah's two largest newspapers highlighting why the neighboring state would be a better home.
"We are doing the work necessary to procure an alternative location for Outdoor Retailer", said Marisa Nicholson, show director for Outdoor Retailer.
Gov. Gary Herbert on Thursday talked in a teleconference with representatives from the Outdoor Retailer, the Outdoor Industry Association, Patagonia, The North Face and REI. Additionally, the nutritionals company stated that will not attend any trade show in Utah - including Interbike, should it relocate there - while state policy on public lands remains "inimical to GU core values". "But most of all, we love our public lands", the ad says.
Conservation Colorado this week announced a campaign to bring the Outdoor Retailer show to Denver, after the show's contract with Salt Lake City expires in the summer of 2018.
In a statement about the meeting, the Outdoor Industry Association said the governor will be asked "to stop all efforts to rescind the Bears Ears National Monument through executive order, to stop efforts to gut the Antiquities Act and to support keeping our public lands public for all Americans to enjoy".

The call focused on the state's position on the Bears Ears designation, Edwards said.
