Russell Westbrook Has A Double-Double For The Season
Apr 10 2017 by Marjorie Miles
The Grizzlies will try to limit Oklahoma City superstar Russell Westbrook, who is tied with Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson for the most triple-doubles in a season (41) after picking up another in Tuesday's 110-79 rout of Milwaukee at home.
Westbrook finished with 45 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists, and he's now six assists shy of locking up a triple-double average for the 2016-17 season.
Westbrook only needs one more triple-double to break Robertson's record and take his place in National Basketball Association history, but right now, it's safe to say his focus is on picking up important wins to help OKC's playoff seeding.
Following a Taj Gibson offensive rebound, Westbrook set up from the top of the key before confidently hitting a clutch 3-pointer over the outstretched arm of Allen to give OKC a 101-97 lead with 14 seconds left in the game.
Oklahoma City solidified their hold on the Western Conference's sixth seed, holding a three and a half game lead over the Grizzlies. He'll have four chances away before the Thunder concludes the regular season at home on April 12.
"It was a special night", Westbrook said. "I'm just truly honored to do it here, especially in Oklahoma City", Westbrook said post-game via ESPN.
A triple-double is the achievement of double-digit totals in three of the five key statistical categories - points, assists, rebounds, blocks and steals - and is regarded as a barometer of all-round versatility.

Just doing therapy and thinking about things, it was actually a month ago when I realized I want him next to me my whole life. As soon as the match was over and the celebration was taking place inside the ring, Cena grabbed a mic and quieted the crowd.
And while the focus inside the locker room was on Westbrook's remarkable accomplishment, not to be overlooked was the fact the Thunder played one of their most complete games of the season. The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard walked over to his bench to get some water. Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with 10 points in the period, and Russell Westbrook had 9 for the Thunder.
PACERS 108, RAPTORS 90: Paul George scored 18 of his 35 points in the third quarter and the desperate Pacers rallied from a 19-point, first-half deficit to blow out Toronto at Indianapolis, ending a four-game losing streak.
Westbrook's seventh straight triple-double matched the career-high streak he put together earlier in the season. He is putting up career bests, and most importantly, doing his job for his team.
Though the chart shows LeBron James adds 42 wins for the Cavaliers when he's on the court, he does play alongside All-Stars like Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, so even he has a pair of decent sidekicks.
Memphis was without starting point guard and leading scorer Mike Conley, who was recovering from a gash over his eye suffered Tuesday night in San Antonio.
NEW ORLEANS - Danilo Gallinari scored 28 points and Denver eliminated New Orleans from playoff contention. Westbrook certainly didn't disappoint in Memphis, scoring 11 of Oklahoma City's final 14 points.
The Thunder are facing Grizzlies at Memphis at the fourth time in this season.
