Korean War legacy could inform engagement

Two North Korean soldiers watched Mr Pence closely as he visited the demilitarised zone on Monday, with one taking photographs of the visiting leader.

By keeping discussions focused squarely on North Korea and shared U.S. and Chinese interests in preventing war on the Korean peninsula, United States officials have also avoided getting dragged into making other concessions - like recognizing China's territorial claims to Taiwan - in order to win China's full support on North Korea.

Vice President Mike Pence, in his tour of the DMZ warned North Korea not to test Trump's military resolve.

North Korea launched their fifth nuclear test April 15 after a day of military parades, but the weapon exploded almost immediately, according to CNN.

Kenyans sweep Boston Marathon on a good day for U.S. runners
But I have to admit, getting near the finish and then crossing the Boston Marathon finish line is pretty cool. Ledecky is set to race the 200m individual medley and the 800m freestyle to close the Mesa meet on Saturday.

Like the flip phone, it was also comprised of two parts but they came together and apart by sliding the parts on a rail. Given the fast pace of growth, the future is bound to hold even many more implications for mobile phone users.

Throughout his bareknuckle election campaign, US President Donald Trump repeatedly called into question a mutual defense treaty between Japan and the United States, suggesting Tokyo should pay for its own security. The Bush administration tried global pressure with the so-called "six party talks", but those failed too, and North Korea launched its first nuclear test in 2006.

Back before the age of Twitter, a previous U.S. president traveled to within spitting distance of North Korea and issued a stark warning about the nuclear aspirations of that country's leaders. In a United Nations meeting in response to the March North Korea missile test, South Korea's ambassador Cho Tae-yul said, "This is not the time for us to talk about freezing or dialogue with North Korea". -South Korean military exercises being staged now are the largest-ever "aggressive war drill" aimed at his country, formally the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. He said North Korea's measures to bolster its nuclear forces are self-defensive "to cope with the USA vicious nuclear threat and blackmail", and he said his country "is ready to react to any mode of war desired by the U.S". He took issue with the USA bolstering and modernizing its nuclear weapons. Spokesman Stephane Dujarric told journalists, "We're obviously deeply concerned about the rising tensions that we've seen in the Korean Peninsula".

His comment comes after a tense weekend on the Korean Peninsula where the North celebrated the 105th birthday of its founding father, Kim Il-sung, with an elaborate military parade on Saturday that showed off its growing missile arsenal. And he warned that any use of nuclear weapons by Pyongyang would be met with "an overwhelming and effective response".

But then he ordered the unilateral missile strike against Syria, even after dismissing talk of deeper US involvement in that nation's civil war.

The next crisis could happen around North Korea's next nuclear test. We call on all to redouble their diplomatic efforts. "But dialogue for the sake of having dialogue is meaningless".

Today, White House Spokesman Sean Spicer applauded China's action restricting North Korea coal exports and the continuing dialogue between the USA and China. Greater responsibility also rests with North Korea to avoid escalation and sit with regional and other countries to find amicable solution of the problem.
