1st tropical depression of season forms far from land

Subtropical depression one has transitioned into a tropical depression and is expected to dissipate Thursday night or Friday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory on Thursday.
But in a twist, the system turned fully tropical today with a more symmetric grouping of thunderstorms and 35 mph winds - four miles below tropical storm status.
