Before murdering Godwin, Stephens had written on his Facebook page that he wanted to kill someone out of rage toward his ex-girlfriend.

After the Godwin shooting, Green said she called her son, whom she described as calm.

Lane said her and Stephens were romantically involved for a while and had discussed getting married. He then shot him, forever linking Lane and the victim's family.

"I feel bad. The last thing that he would have said was my name and didn't know me or why he was saying it. And that's been hard", Lane said.

In the video, Stephens told Godwin the name of his girlfriend and said, "She's the reason that this is about to happen to you".

The sisters told Lane the killing is not her fault, and they don't hold any ill will toward her.
