The Cleveland Cavaliers overcame a bout of fourth-quarter jitters to take a grip of their National Basketball Association play-off series against the Indiana Pacers on Monday as San Antonio seized control of their duel with Memphis.

Smith was evaluated Monday and will get checked out again before the series moves to IN for Thursday's game three.

It was a little more nervy than it ought to have been, though, as the Cavs were leading by 18 points in the final quarter before taking their foot off the pedal. The series had been tied 2-2, and after a blowout victory in Game 5 James said, "I've been a part of some very adverse situations and I just didn't believe that this was one of them". "We lost our poise and wasn't calm during that third quarter".

However, Love knocked down two free throws and C.J. Miles was whistled for an offensive foul, thwarting the Pacers' comeback. "We're going to go out there, keep trying to give them hell, keep competing and we'll get ourselves a win".

Smith didn't play in the second half of Game 2 because Cleveland's medical staff decided it was better for him to rest than risk making his injury worse. However Smith's replacement, Iman Shumpert, impressed from the bench with five points. "He came in and made it tough on Paul George and made a couple shots for us also".

The Spurs won 96-82 on Monday night (Tuesday AEST) on their home court and need just two more wins in the best-of seven series to extinguish the Grizzlies and move on to the second round. "Lance is, in our locker room, is looked upon as a leader". He's gotta learn to just be in the moment. His body language has to improve, just for the team.

Game three is in Memphis on Thursday (Friday AEST).

"We all know that Lance is an emotional guy". Stephenson scored 16 points against the Cavs in Game 1, then added 13 in Game 2. Stephenson had a strong workout with Cleveland in January before latching on with in, but coach Tyronn Lue said his recent injuries dissuaded the Cavs from signing him.
