Jose Mourinho admits Manchester United are in "trouble" after Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo were injured in the Europa League win over Anderlecht.
Seconds later, Marcus Rashford popped up to secure the 2-1 victory over the Belgians and United's spot in the Europa League semi-finals.
Relieved Jose Mourinho declared his trust in Marcus Rashford repaid as the striker's extra time victor kept alive Manchester United's hopes of Champions League football next season, through the Europa League back door.
The young forward has scored three in his last three appearances, including a goal against Chelsea last weekend, and he is finally displaying the abundance of talent he has as a forward under Mourinho. Okay, you speak about his (Rashford's) qualities but he was not scoring a goal since September.
"I want to wait and try to be optimistic, but I am not".
Asked about the condition of the pair, Mourinho said: "I want to wait, but my feeling is not good for both".
Daley Blind was able to cover at centre-half as Mourinho's men booked their place in the semi-finals of that competition, but he is looking for Smalling and Jones to offer him a boost by making themselves available ahead of schedule. "I knew him like everyone else, what he could say, what people said about him, but I immediately liked him".
"I just feel that when a player reaches a certain level, it doesn't make a lot of sense to drop levels", he said.
"It is time for Jones and Smalling to be courageous, to risk, because for the team we have to do everything".
"I always trust the players with a special mentality", Mourinho told Sky Sports.
Speaking on BBC Sport's 606 podcast, Wright said: "I champion Marcus Rashford all the time because he gives them an edge and the pace".
"So instead of come (back) mid-May you can come beginning of May". "That is the way we think", Mourinho added.
