Former Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd apparently will transfer to Baylor

Hurd announced Saturday that he will transfer to Baylor, John Werner of the Waco Tribune reports.

Hurd will have to sit out the 2017 season but is eligible to suit up for the Bears in 2018.

ESPN confirmed with Baylor that Hurd was headed to the Texas school and that he plans to move from running back to wide receiver. After starting his Tennessee career with two solid seasons, Hurd's game took a big step back last season, as he rushed for only 451 yards and rushing for 1,285 the season prior.

Hurd also reportedly visited Cal, Ohio State and Louisville earlier this offseason. A junior at the time, he cited an unhappiness with the way he was used in the offense and injuries as his rationale behind his departure. Hurd was a great in between the tackles runner for the Volunteers, and the word is that he'll play multiple positions for the Bears.

The Tennessee native left the Vols' football team in 2016 after seven games.

Hurd finished his Tennessee career with 2,634 rushing yards, which ranks sixth in program history and just 444 yards behind the record held by Travis Henry.
