Sizzling Astros Beat Royals For 11th Straight Win

The Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals meet Tuesday in Major League Baseball action at Kauffman Stadium. Facing Kansas City starter Ian Kennedy tonight could increase those numbers since Kennedy is on a rapid decline lately.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Mike Fiers tags out Kansas City Royals' Whit Merrifield (15), as he runs to first after batting the ball back to Fiers during the first inning of a baseball game Monday, June 5, 2017, in Kansas.

Across 57 games, Houston had hit a league-leading 90 homers while averaging 5.47 runs per game, almost two runs per game higher than their opponents on Monday night.

The winning streak is the longest in the majors this year.

The Astros go for their 12 straight win tomorrow night.

McCann homered in the fourth after Marwin Gonzalez walked to lead off the inning.

The Reds had lost two in a row and five of six going into the opener of this four-game series.

The decisive blow came from the bat of Astros catcher Brian McCann, who jumped a first-pitch fastball from Kennedy in the top of the fourth. "I've made some minor adjustments and was able to drive the ball to left-center and when I'm doing that, it's a good sign".

Gurriel homered in the ninth. He has gone deep in back to back games and has 10 RBI's during a six game hitting streak.

"We got after them early and then they put on a little bit of a push and it got really close", Astros manager A.J. Hinch said.

As the Warriors went on their final 13-2 run, James was oddly passive, deferring to his teammates and watching them come up short. Durant averaged 32.0 points in his final three road games of that series (Games 2, 5 and 7) but the Thunder lost all three.

Houston (42-16) became the first team with at least 42 wins in their first 58 games since the 2001 Seattle Mariners. He began that season hitting second and was eventually moved down after the team acquired Ben Zobrist for the stretch run.

The Astros are bound to lose eventually, but I've said many times in the past, the Astros are the scariest offensive team in baseball, and when they're hitting well, just ride them until they cool off.

Royals rookie Eric Skoglund in his second career start, left two pitches in the second inning, both of which were shotgunned for two-run doubles in the Royals' 8-0 loss to the Indians on Sunday. He had five home runs and nine RBIs. He's 6-0 in his past 10 road starts dating to August 20.

"Just be aggressive, get ahead, strike one's big", Fiers said.

The Royals threatened in the sixth with Hosmer and Salvador Perez singles and a Gonzalez throwing error putting runners on the corners with no outs.

Rookie Jorge Bonifacio drilled his eighth homer of the year in the seventh, slicing the Houston lead to 4-3.

The Royals had Hosmer at third and Moustakas at first with none out in the sixth, but failed to score.

Kennedy was removed after five innings, having allowed four runs on six hits and three walks. Kennedy, who is in the second season of a five-year, $70 million contract, is winless in 14 starts since a September 11 victory.

"I felt good", Merrifield said.
