Trump's Ex-Campaign Manager Lewandowski Eyes White House Position

In a strategy shift, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Wednesday for the first time referred a reporter's question about the president's actions in regard to the FBI's Russian Federation probe to an outside counsel.
In talks with Kislyak in December, Kushner floated the possibility of setting up a secure line of communication between the Trump transition team and Russia - and having those talks take place in Russian diplomatic facilities in the USA, essentially concealing their interactions from USA government scrutiny.
Lewandowski emphasized that anyone wanting to work on the White House communications staff would need to already know Trump.
The Republican president came home to face more questions on Russian Federation after media reports about communications during and after the campaign between his son-in-law and close adviser, Jared Kushner, and Russia's ambassador to Washington.
During a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon, Sean Spicer was asked if Americans should be concerned over the fact that the president sent an incomprehensible tweet at midnight and that it remained on his profile for so long.
But President Trump has proclaimed his support for Kushner, who has been given a broad portfolio involving everything from Mideast peace to streamlining Washington red tape. Shortly after the election, Kushner is reported to have discussed setting up a secret communications channel with the Russian government to facilitate sensitive discussions about the conflict in Syria.
Fresh off President Trump's first official trip overseas, his administration is looking for ways to respond more aggressively to allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and revelations of possible ties between Trump's campaign and Moscow.

Over the weekend, White House National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn - who was the second-in-command at Goldman Sachs before joining the White House - declared the president's economic development deal with Saudi Arabia to be unlike anything he had seen in his 30 years in business.
Trump tweeted Tuesday: "Russian officials must be laughing at the USA & how a lame excuse for why the Dems lost the election has taken over the Fake News".
On Tuesday, Spicer declined to say if Trump has met with attorneys over representing him in a personal capacity.
Cohen did not respond to Reuters' request to comment.
According to the Partnership for Public Service, a nonpartisan group that provided the Trump transition with hiring advice, the White House has only been able to put forward nominees for 117 Senate-confirmed positions, even though there are 559 Senate-confirmed positions that are considered to be among the most important.
