Grammys switching to online voting, changes top album rule

Last year, they loosened the rules around what constitutes an album to keep up with the new amorphous realities of music and now they've changed their voting system to encourage younger members of The Recording Academy to vote. There are over 13,000 voting members of the committee, so this change will make the voting process much easier for the busy artists and musicians who otherwise would have to be at home to cast their votes.
The 2018 Grammy Awards will be broadcast Sunday, January 28 from New York'sMadison Square Garden.
Elsewhere, music creatives (songwriters, producers, engineers, mixers, mastering engineers, featured artists) credited with at least one-third of playing time on a project that wins Album of the Year will also receive a golden gramophone trophy as well.
Under previous rules, the academy considered for Album of the Year any work released in the qualifying year that ran at least 15 minutes with five or more distinct tracks.
