Android O rumored for August 21st release

Android O launch date could happen next week

Google has now released Developer Preview 5, with plenty of major changes and new features.

Google's next big release - Android O beta - has entered Developer Preview 2. If you have a device which uses the Google Camera then you should be seeing the update live in the Play Store, and if it isn't showing up just yet it should be soon as it seems the update started hitting devices yesterday. Developer Preview 4.1 system images will remain available, but there will be no future updates. Android Police's David Ruddock fired off a bunch of tweets on Thursday claiming that Google will likely announce the operating system's official name on August 21, the day of the solar eclipse.

While the update only includes a handful of minor changes, they actually add up to making the photography experience on Android much better. Earlier rumors have revealed that this year Google will be releasing the Android O earlier this year.

There are several new features in Android O. One is picture in picture, which will let you watch a video in a small window on your smartphone while you perform other tasks.
