Arsène Wenger praises match-winner Olivier Giroud for staying at Arsenal

Arsenal and Leicester City served up a wild curtain-raiser for the 2017-18 Premier League season, with the Gunners taking the opener 4-3 at home.

Trailing 2-3, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger substituted Giroud and Aaron Ramsey for Elneny and Rob Holding, respectively, while Leicester City's Craig Shakespeare pulled Okazaki in favour of defensive midfielder Daniel Amartey.

Arsenal got off to a quick start in this one, with Alexandre Lacazette scoring just a little over a minute into the game to give himself his first-ever Premier League goal of his career.

The impressive Vardy scored his second in the 53rd minute to put Leicester in front once more, curling Riyad Mahrez's corner into the bottom far corner amid poor Arsenal marking. He doesn't want to leave, but at some stage I opened the door for him because I had many strikers.

"We were punished on every single mistake by a Leicester team that was very efficient going forward".

"I love the man (Giroud) and the player".

'When we thought about the key qualities, they were the experience, the gravitas for a club like this, a record of success in the game. "We love him and in the end he chose to stay".

Wenger also stated that lack of focus on the part of his defenders cost Arsenal the first two goals they conceded.

But the home side's pressure in the final half hour turned the game back their way and Ramsey equalised with a shot from close range with seven minutes remaining.
