"We immediately reached at the district centre but found nothing", said a police officer. Pandey probably dropped the phone in the rush to exit the mall. They did pick him up (wearing a blue T-shirt) walking out of the mall and towards the Janakpuri (west) Metro station.
The officer added that the CCTV footages were also checked. His dead body was found on the railway track near the yard. Pandey, who originally hailed from Bihar's Chhapra was a resident of Guwahati's Bamunimaidam area. "He was such a nice, upright and honest man", he said.
Police said they later found the "detailed suicide note" from the hotel room in which the officer had written he was "upset" because of problems in his marital life.
