Tropical Depression 8

It is located about 260 miles east of the southeastern Bahamas and is expected to become a Tropical Storm by this afternoon.

It's moving to the north-northwest at about 17 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour.

Tropical Depression 8 formed over the western Atlantic Saturday night and is forecasted to strengthen into a tropical storm by Sunday night.

The National Hurricane Center said Tropical Depression Eight would not threaten the USA and stay to the east. When it does, it will be given the name Gert. While the system is forecast to become a tropical storm the current forecast track keeps it away from the east coast and out to sea.
