Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., said President Donald Trump had elevated North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un as a "world stage player" in his statements over their nuclear weapons program, The Hill reported Saturday.

Mr Trump warned he would unleash "fire and fury" on North Korea if it did not stop its threats to the US.

When asked if it was a good idea for the president to threaten "fire and fury" on North Korea, Mr Green said: 'I think the sensible way for people to proceed is to work through the United Nations process, that's what the British Government has been supporting and will continue to support'. "If you don't want to be a deer in the headlights, start calling for diplomacy immediately".

The remarks drew outrage, and in an interview after the panel with the Washington Post, Ellison went into damage control.

"I know people say the rhetoric wasn't stopping the advancement of their weapons, but we're tracking it and we have the technology to intercept", McCaskill said. "It's tailor-made for somebody to misuse".

"I subscribe to the Churchillian maxim of "jaw-jaw is always better than war-war" and given the consequences of a potential nuclear war, clearly, we do need to lower the temperature... rather than continuing in this rather bellicose way in which Donald Trump and indeed Kim Jong-un has been doing".

We should challenge Kim to present a new face to the world and offer to come in and provide whatever assistance they need to make the whole thing a success.

Speaking in Bristol, Mr Corbyn said: "We can not play fast and loose with nuclear weapons and nuclear threats because do you know what - a nuclear explosion doesn't stop at national borders, it doesn't stop at the vicinity where the bomb drops". Michael Ahrens, the RNC's rapid-response director, sent the video of Ellison's comment to reporters, calling it "insane" and and challenging Democrats to respond.

Ahrens was not alone in his criticism, as many reactions on Twitter agreed.
