They should have had me eight years ago, somebody with my thought process, because that was the time.

The governor praised Mr Trump's handling of the latest escalation of tensions with North Korea, that saw Pyongyang threaten last week to target Guam, a U.S. territory, with four ballistic missiles.

"Tourism, I can tell you this - tourism, you're going to go up like 10-fold with the expenditure of no money so I congratulate you", Mr Trump is heard saying on a speakerphone in a video posted to Facebook by Guam's Governor Eddie Baza Calvo.

Trump assured Calvo that "We are behind you 1,000 percent".

"I have to say, Eddie, you're going to become extremely famous".

The President said he wanted to give his "highest respect and regards" to the people of Guam and that the military is rock solid "we've got the best in the world", he added. "It just looks like a attractive place", Trump said. It looks lovely. You know I'm watching.

Calvo concurred, giving Trump a tourism pitch and describing it as "paradise". We are with you 1,000 percent.

"Mr. President, as the governor of Guam...and as an American citizen, I have never felt more safe or confident with you at the helm", Calvo told Trump.

The president responded, "You just went to 110, I think".

North Korean military on Thursday said it would prepare a plan by mid-August to strike Guam, a United States island territory in the Western Pacific, with intermediate missiles.

During the telephone call Trump also spoke about North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, who days earlier he had threatened with "fire and fury" if he attacked the U.S. Trump told Calvo, "You notice that he hasn't spoken recently". The threat came on the heels of Trump's statement that the U.S. would respond to North Korean aggression with "fire and fury" unlike anything the world had ever seen.
