Adding injury to insult, South Carolina's top offensive playmaker - junior wide receiver Deebo Samuel - was lost for the season with a broken leg.

SC appeared to be in control, but the offense stalled as Johnson and Snell went to work for the Kentucky offense, which scored 20 unanswered points. "I was pretty amazed the first time I ever played down there".

Samuel was making big plays for SC before getting hurt. They took South Carolina's opening punch and then won every big moment the rest of the way. However, the Gamecocks weren't able to take advantage as they missed a 52 yard field goal, and had a pass intercepted by Mike Edwards.

Samuel had five catches for 122 yards and a touchdown, his sixth this season.

The dagger? A 54-yard run by Wildcat quarterback Stephen Johnson on a third-and-eight from the Kentucky 36-yard-line - a critical conversion that came just five plays after the Gamecocks had pulled within seven points late in the fourth quarter.

SC kicker Alexander Woznick missed the PAT on the Gamecocks' first touchdown.

"He's an outstanding teammate and an outstanding friend", quarterback Jake Bentley said, according to The State.

Johnson completed 16 of 25 passes for 169 yards.

But Samuel was slow to get up after a 9-yard catch in the third quarter.

"I don't have all the information, but I know he's going to be out for the year", Muschamp said right after the game. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on the SEC Network.
