Sydney Nurse Dies of Pneumonia On Honeymoon Fiji

Mrs Kelly's family managed to raise $14,300 for a medivac to help the woman but they arrived in the country an hour after she died

Davies says out of respect for Kelly Clarke's next of kin, the Ministry of Health will not comment further on this matter and again expresses its sympathy to all who have been affected by her loss.

Fijian authorities will conduct an autopsy on Mrs Clarke's body, the findings of which will not be released until the examination is concluded.

Within hours she was rushed to hospital in Lautoka, half an hour north of popular tourist destination Nadi, where doctors first suspected Typhoid.

"I told her I loved her, we're going to get out of here, everything's going to be okay".

Ms Clarke was placed in an induced coma due to organ failure and septicaemia, with her sister starting a fundraiser to bring her home for emergency treatment.

"I spoke to her and she told me she was scared she was going to die", Mr Clake said.

"She needs a medivac ASAP as Fiji doesn't have the medications she needs", her sister Tam Brown wrote on a Go Fund Me, but Mrs Clarke died before the medivac crew arrived.

24-year-old Clarke was suffering from extreme pneumonia, which was originally diagnosed as typhoid.

"Kelly was bright, bubbly and over the top; she loved her makeup and always looked the part", Kirribilli Club duty manager Launa Harper said.

Mr Clarke said it would cost $61,000 to fly her body back to Australia in a private plane.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said it was providing consular assistance "to the family of an Australian woman who passed away in Fiji". The diagnosis was only delivered after Kelly passed away on Friday.
