Air Force Commandos Killed During Encounter In Kashmir's Bandipora

Two militants and two Air Force commandos were killed in a shootout in Hajin area of Bandipora district in northern part of Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.
"The militants opened fire on our forces and killed two Airforce Guard commandos". At present, the police say, there are around 22 militants in Hajin belt alone of Bandipora district and majority are foreigners.
The earlier reports said the gun battle erupted when the security personnel surrounded the Paribal village early on Wednesday following specific inputs about the militants' presence inside a house.
According to reports, the operation is still on. Several members of the IAF commando squad are now training in the operation of anti-terrorist operations in Kashmir with various units of the Army. But during this time two military personnel martyred and four others were injured.

J&K police chief S P Vaid has stated that around 85 militants were active in north Kashmir and majority of them are foreigners.
During the encounter, two militants were immediately killed while 3 security force personnel sustained injuries, out of which two who were in critical condition later succumbed.
The government forces would conduct regular cordon and search operations in the Hajin for a few months now but were expecting to manage contact with the militants as the autumn set in.
The Garud commandos receive training similar to that given to Navy's MARCOS and the Army's para commandos.
