Attempted escape reported at NC prison; several employees injured

Attempted escape at Pasquotank CI in Eliz City around 3:30 pm.
State prison officials are reporting that several prison employees have been injured following an attempted escape today at Pasquotank Correctional Institute north of Elizabeth City. Calls to Correction Enterprises and the Department of Public Safety Thursday weren't promptly returned. Fires were set in the jail sewing plant and a few workers were harmed, as indicated by the tweet.
The incident triggered lockdowns at three schools.
Located in the Elizabeth City, North Carolina, the prisoners set fire to the prison's sewing plant to distract prison guards on the scene. Northside Elementary, Elizabeth City Middle, and Pasquotank County High School were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

A spokesperson for Sentara Albemarle Medical Center told ABC News that the hospital has received six patients to date.
Elizabeth City fire crews and EMS have responded to the prison.
