Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to a charge of lying to the FBI about his Russian Federation contacts in early October and has apparently been cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
Papadopoulos, the foreign policy aide to President Trump admitted to misleading federal investigators about the relationships he had maintained between himself and a professor who is believed to have a strong connection to Russian Federation.
But he was found to have represented the campaign on several occasions and had told several more senior campaign officials - including Trump himself - of his relationship-building with Russian Federation.
A short time later Papadopoulos met with Federal Bureau of Investigation agents about the alleged links and later admitted he had lied during that meeting, the network news reported.
"Few people knew the young, low level volunteer named George, who has already proven to be a liar", Trump tweeted October 31. The document indicates the Russian professor "only took interest in defendant Papadopoulos because of his status with the Campaign".
Trump has downplayed the role of Papadopoulos in the campaign in tweets about former campaign chairman Paul Manafort's indictment. But according to ABC News, Papadopoulos made trips to several countries and met with ambassadors and foreign officials where he was introduced as Trump's advisor.
