How Wike Amaechi turned traffic altercation to power play for control of Rivers

Shortly after his emergence as governor, Wike set up a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the state's finances under Amaechi's watch.

"Also part of the attack, was the Commander of Rivers SARS, Mr Akin Fakorede who received the Minister of Transportation at the Port Harcourt L Airport and accompanied on his trip".

Wike, through his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, in his reaction, however, claimed that personnel of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) and soldiers attached to the minister of transportation attacked his convoy, while allegedly attempting to assassinate him.

The party alleged that the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, was behind an assassination attempt on the life of Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike at the weekend.

Both men gave conflicting accounts of the incident which occurred at Trans Amadi Road, by Nwanja Junction.

He further alleged, that "The minister of transportation had over 50 SARS personnel, soldiers and mobile policemen in his motorcade", and that the attempt on the governor's life was unsuccessful, as he was not hurt. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who was in the same vehicle with the Minister of Transportation, indicated that Wike's dispatch rider pulled a pistol to assassinate Amaechi, but missed his target, after which Amaechi's Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Mr. Seimeikumo Debewari, intervened to save the minister from further assassination attempt.

"Since he became governor, Wike spends most of his time making reckless, deeply irresponsible, malicious, false allegations against Amaechi, as he attempts, albeit fruitlessly, to malign and destroy the outstandingly superb performance and legacy of Amaechi in Rivers State".

I am happy at Arsenal and I am fine with the decision to stay because I want to. I'm very proud and I always try to bring something to the national team".

Governor Nyesome Wike of Rivers State and his immediate predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi have once again taken their quest to assert control over the state to another level.

IT was a horrifying scene yesterday afternoon in Port Harcourt, as policemen attached to Governor Nyesom Wike and that of the Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, clashed.

But Mr. Amaechi denied the claims, saying that "gun-totting security men attached to Wike's convoy" surrounded Mr. Amaechi's vehicle, threatening to shoot him.

"The minister eventually passed through after the intervention of the security team on the ground to protect him in Port Harcourt". All through this attack, Amaechi remained calm inside the fortified vehicle. The vehicle was vandalized with a broken side mirror", the statement said."The statement went on: "The incident occurred in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, along Trans-Amadi road, Nwaja axis. The policeman's rifle was also taken from him", the statement said.

"If APC chairman is calling for arrest and prosecution of Wike's CSO, what do we do to the policemen that attacked the Rivers governor's escort rider?"

In a statement issued yesterday by its Head of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, PDP asked President Buhari to order the immediate transfer of Mr. Fakorede of SARS out of Rivers State.

According to the statement, the Minister narrowly escaped being shot by security men attached to Wike.
