It was announced last week that Spacey would be cut out of the movie, in which he plays J. Paul Getty, and replaced by Plummer via costly reshoots.

While Plummer has valiantly accepted his duty to replace Spacey in the film, the 87-year-old is still reeling from the Tony-winner's fall from grace as accusations continue to pour out.

"It isn't replacing. In a amusing way it's starting all over again because it's going to be different, naturally", the 87-year-old told Entertainment Tonight.

Plummer added, "The situation is very sad, because he's such a talented guy".

"The whole circumstance is sad", Plummer told ET. "But I've got to forget that and go and do it, because it's a very well written script and Ridley has been very good".

Although the reshoots are expected to take some time, Deadline reported that Scott is determined to keep the film's December 22 release date.

It blamed the absence of Afghan authority on the Afghan side of the border for encouraging militants to plot such attacks. Four Pakistani soldiers were wounded in the attack on a military post in the northwestern region of Bajaur, the army said.

The film is due in Irish cinemas on January 5, 2018.

Actor Christopher Plummer (L) is pictured arriving at the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards in Toronto, Ontario March 13, 2016, and Kevin Spacey (R) is pictured at the 71st Tony Awards in New York City, U.S., June 11, 2017 in this combination of file photos.

The decision to replace Spacey was unanimous among Sony Pictures execs as well as the film's cast and crew, including actors Michelle Pfeiffer and Mark Wahlberg, to re-shoot the scenes.

This decision was taken due to the sexual misconduct allegations that surfaced against Spacey almost two weeks ago. "But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior". "I admire Ridley very much", Plummer explained to a gaggle of journalists when he was asked how he became involved. "And that's all I can say because that's it". The actor is pleased with the role, sharing, "I'm fascinated by doing real people".

The reshooting comes after actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of trying to seduce him in 1986 when Rapp was 14. "I'm used to big roles and lots of words". I'm very saddened by what happened to Kevin, but what can I do?

Spacey was also fired from Netflix's House of Cards following the allegations.
