PCB allows PSL teams to increase salary cap

A Pakistan Super League Franchise meeting was held at the National Cricket Academy with Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi in chair here on Monday evening.

The third edition of the tournament returns to action in February 2018.

Emerging Players Round 1: Lahore Qalandars - Shaheen Shah Afridi, Islamabad United - Sahibzada Farhan, Karachi Kings - Mohammad Irfan Jr, Quetta Gladiators - Saud Shakeel, Peshawan Zalmi - Sameen Gul, Multan Sultans - Abdullah Shafique. Speaking at the sidelines of the PSL draft, Sethi said, "I am confident that Karachi's national stadium will be ready in time to host the grand finale of PSL 3".

The meeting as attended by Mr. Asher Schon, Managing Director Multan Sultans, Nadeem Omar, Owner Quetta Gladiators, Javed Afridi, Owner Peshawar Zalmi, Atif Rana, CEO Lahore Qalandars, Salman Iqbal, Owner Karachi Kings, and Ali Naqvi, Co-owner Islamabad United.

The Quetta Gladiators chose Australian master blaster Shane Watson while the champions of PSL season 2 Peshawar Zalmi picked Dwayne Bravo as their Platinum player.

Karachi Kings have picked batsman Colin Ingram, also from South Africa.

Lahore Qalandars have picked Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rehman in the diamond category.

Teams have retained nine players each and have gone into the draft to pick one Platinum, one Diamond, one Gold, two Silver and two Emerging players each in order to complete their squads of 16.

While Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans picked their top players in the first round, it was Islamabad United along with Lahore that finished looking menacing, on paper at least, given the depth of their squads. The players in Gold Category will be drafted in the third round while players in the silver group will be drafted in the fourth and fifth rounds.

Gayle, who is the only cricketer to score 10,000 runs in T20 cricket, was not picked up by the PSL franchises due to his poor form and partial availability, according to Wisden India.

The Supplementary players are those who are not available for the entire season because of worldwide commitments.
