Korea, China Agree to Normalize Cooperation, Exchanges

Prior to President Moon's comments, Chinese President Xi Jinping prefaced their meeting with the following statement: "Both China and Korea share common interests at an extensive level in terms of the business and social development of our two countries, in the advancement of our bilateral relationship and in the development of world peace".
The meeting, the first of its kind, was held on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) forum in Manila.
"We hope that South Korea will properly match its words with actions", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular press conference on October 31, noting that South Korea had agreed not to make further deployments of the missile shield.
According to the Blue House of South Korea, the two countries are likely to form a consultative group and discuss the issue in greater depth until the South Korean President's visit to China scheduled for next month.
"If talks begin to resolve the North Korea nuclear issue, I feel it will be realistically hard for North Korea to completely destroy its nuclear capabilities when their nuclear and missile arsenal are at a developed stage", Moon said in a briefing.
Abe nevertheless said it was significant that he and Xi had agreed to deepen cooperation on North Korea, adding he would continue to make efforts to improve ties with China.

The South Korean president is set to return home Wednesday.
"China stands ready to work with relevant parties to speed up negotiations of the China-Japan-South Korea FTA", Li told a regional summit in Manila, Xinhua said.
Moon made the remarks at the annual East Asia Summit (EAS), attended by the leaders of 17 other countries, including China, Japan, Russia and the United States.
