Prisoner shot dead in Rohini court, second incident in six months

Police suspect the killing to be a result of a rivalry , As Reported By TOI.

The victim was produced by the staff of the Third Battalion in Rohini Court, said Rishi Pal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini).

The incident happened near the canteen area around 11 30 am, when the undertrial was accompanied back by the police, from the court.

"He was in judicial custody from last 14 days and during the investigation, it was revealed that he had no other criminal involvements".

Vinod was immediately rushed to a nearby government hospital, where he was declared dead. He had been absconding for the past seven years in a cheating case registered at the south Rohini police station in 2010, over a sale of a plot there.

A 27-year-old Rakesh Mehra, an advocate, told The Statesman, "After shooting, the accused surrendered before police".

Such incidents do raise questions on the level of security at the court. A country-made gun used by Khan, a resident of Nangloi, was recovered, police said.

The incharge responsible for the security of Rohini court i.e. Incharge of Police Post Rohini Court Sub Inspector Narender has been placed under suspension and Station House Officer Prashant Vihar has been sent to district lines pending further inquiry, the DCP added. Khan is married and has a kid, said police.
