Salvation Army offering new way for people to give this holiday season

From its humble beginnings as a fundraiser started by a Salvation Army Captain in San Francisco in 1891, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the United States.

Maj. David Worthy, The Salvation Army of Knoxville's area commander, emphasized the importance of the campaign.

At The Salvation Army's local volunteer meet and greet she said she offers her time because more than six decades ago, The Salvation Army helped her when she was just a little girl.
