Bagley also matched another Dukerecord held by Parker for most points by a freshman over the first two games of a career (49). The Blue Devils have covered the spread in the lone lined game they have played in. In Friday's win, Bagley set the scoring record for a Duke freshman in a season opener with 25 points (Shavlik Randolph, 23 versus Army on November 12, 2002).
Can Michigan State solve the Duke puzzle? - Arizona is still very much among the title favorites, and it's still way too early rule anyone out, but Michigan State, Duke, Kansas and Kentucky all have the opportunity to pick up statement wins Tuesday. In the season opener, Miles Bridges had 20 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.
Duke and Michigan State have the best chance at separating themselves from the field with a win.
Bridges leads a Spartans team which also features 6-11 freshman Jaren Jackson Jr., center Nick Ward, Joshua Langford and crafty point guard Cassius Winston. I think the Spartans will take their learning experiences from a year ago and turn it into some big wins this year.
Either way, this will be one of the best games of the season and could legitimately be a preview of the 2018 National Championship game. As we have seen in previous seasons, these are good games, that are a little sloppy at times. This year, the Spartans get a third crack in the event against Duke and both teams will be doing it in style.
Those offerings aren't going to be replicated by another player on Duke's roster, but head coach Mike Krzyzewski has a deep talent pool that can band together to compensate for Bagley's absence.
