Makers reportedly wanted $1B in incentives for new plant.
Out of all the states that were considered, only Alabama and North Carolina remain in the running. Jim Crawford, chairman of the Chatham County Commission, on Tuesday night said that the sites near Siler City and Moncure are no longer in the running for the plant, but they have submitted a bid for the new Amazon headquarters.
According to recent reports, the plant will be built in North Carolina or in Alabama.
The Japanese automakers announced the plans for the new plant in August, saying the move will create 4,000 jobs.
Unsurprisingly, the price to land a new automotive plant is steep.

In response to the conference, Mugabe's political party, Zanu-PF, accused Chiwenga of "treasonable conduct". Decades ago, Zimbabwe had one of Africa's promising economies due in part to its agricultural exports.
Bloomberg has previously reported that the companies want a $1 billion incentive package. It said spokesmen for both vehicle companies declined to comment.
While Toyota has facilities in Texas and Alabama, only Alabama survived the cut.
"I think if it doesn't come, we've got a prime site, probably one of the best sites in North Carolina, that can attract an industry of some sort", said Liberty Mayor Filmore York.
Toyota plans to build the Corolla at the new site while Mazda said it will produce crossovers that it "will newly introduce to the North American market". The plant will be able to produce 300,000 vehicles annually, and both companies hope to start operations in 2021. MS was also seen as an early contender for the plant.
