Amazon Prime Launches In Singapore, Subscription Starts From $2.99/Month

While introducing the membership, the online retailer more than halved the threshold for free worldwide shipping to Singapore and also cut delivery times, hoping the deal will attract more shoppers to its platform that will now give access to more than 5 million items from Amazon U.S. Singaporeans do, however, get access to Prime videos and Twitch Prime.
However, as an introductory offer, Amazon only charge S$2.99, though Amazon decline to inform of how long the promotion will last.
He also said that the company is also taking into account what Singapore customers want.
Amazon declined to comment on when these options, offered under Free AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping, were officially terminated. And this is just the beginning.
However, he encouraged "anyone living in Singapore to leverage the Prime membership package developed specifically for Singapore" and noted that Prime membership is country-specific and not transferable, which means that those with US Prime memberships can not convert them to local ones.

The Prime launch, a first in Southeast Asia, will see Amazon expanding its reach in the region even as Chinese rival Alibaba already sells merchandise from its online Taobao stores through a regional e-commerce subsidiary, Lazada.
Speaking to The Straits Times in a phone interview on Tuesday, Amazon Prime International's vice-president Jamil Ghani said that more benefits will be added over time for Prime membership in Singapore. These are unique offerings that Amazon can provide to the market that its local competitors do not yet provide, she added.
Customers who do not have a Prime membership in the USA can, however, enjoy free delivery within the country for orders totalling US$25 or more on eligible items.

The launch of Amazon Prime comes just after the company ended its Free AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping option to Singapore on Monday, which enabled shoppers here to get free global shipping with a minimum order of US$125. The service, which offers free two-hour delivery from its local warehouse with a minimum order of S$40, will also be made exclusive for members. Existing Amazon Prime Video subscribers in Singapore will not be forced into joining Prime, however, it will no longer be available for subscription as a standalone service. Members also receive a Twitch channel subscription every 30 days, as well as ad-free viewing, an expanded set of chat emotes and colors, and an exclusive chat badge, all available at twitch.amazon.com/prime.
